Weddings @ Christ Church

A Church Wedding is a very special occasion. Christ Church offers a delightful venue for a wedding. Seating up to a maximum of 120 guests, it feels very intimate and the pillars and windows offer excellent spaces for floral decorations. In addition, Duns Castle and Wedderburn Castle are close by and offer lovely venues for receptions. Our aim is to make the service special and memorable, but also to help the couple have a rich and lasting relationship.

Weddings should be booked as early in advance as possible. Your wedding day is incredibly important to you and to us, so early planning is essential.

The suggested donation for a wedding at Christ Church Duns is £400 plus an additional fee of £75 for the organist.

Note:

  • You do not have to be a member of the church to get married at Christ Church Duns. All are welcome, your marriage is as legally binding as in a registry office. Those wanting to get married at Christ Church Duns  also need to contact the local Duns Registration Office (01361 886 110) to obtain the legal document that will be signed in church.
  • If you have been married before and are divorced, the clergy can marry you with the bishop’s permission.
  • In June 2017 the Scottish Episcopal Church decided that all marriages, including same-sex marriages, can now be celebrated in their ‘opted in’ churches. Plese contact the rector for further information.

Church Blessings

The same rates are charged for church blessings and for weddings. The fee for a Church Blessing is £400 and includes the time spent by the rector in preparing the couple plus an aditional fee of £75 for the organist.

For more information, or to discuss a Wedding or a Church Blessing, please contact the Rector.

Baptisms

On profession of faith, by an adult, or by parents making promises on a child’s behalf.  We welcome people who celebrate the birth of a child or the beginnings of a life of faith, in Baptism, also called Christening.

"First of all there is preparation beforehand. For babies and young children the parents should have an understanding of not just what will happen at the time of the baptism but also what it is about. There are promises to be made. These promises focus on what it means to be a Christian and whether or not you actually believe the Christian faith. In the case of the young person or the adult then they would be the ones receiving the preparation." (https://www.scotland.anglican.org/spirituality/worship/baptism/)

Christ Church Duns welcomes all people who are baptised in Church into the congregation and so, whenever possible, we like to have baptisms as part of our morning service at 10.30 on a Sunday.

There is no charge for a Baptism Service and we baptise people of all ages, genders and orientations.

Please contact the Rector as soon as possible to organise a Baptism Service.

Confirmations

Confirmations and their preparation are always free.

Many people like to hold funerals in church even if they, or those who have died, have not always been church goers. Your undertaker will advise you as to how it can easily be arranged for the service to be held in Christ Church Duns either prior to, or after, a short service at the Crematorium. If you prefer we will, of course, be happy to conduct the complete service at the Crematorium.

It is our privilege to welcome people to Christ Church Duns at this time of transition and change in their lives.
